Schöck Company Profile
Although Schöck Ltd is best known in the UK for its specialisation in thermal break technology, throughout Europe the company is also recognised as being one of the leading suppliers of innovative noise impact suppression and reinforcement technology solutions. The market leading range of Isokorb® thermal break modules in the UK offers unrivalled application options, unique design characteristics and outstanding thermal efficiency. It allows connections to be made between concrete-to-concrete, concrete-to-steel and steel-to-steel.
The proven high technical performance values of the Isokorb® range have been the main driver in helping establish and maintain the current market position for Schöck in the UK. However, the development of its Oxfordshire based support services has played a significant part as well. Specifiers, structural engineers and contractors are able to call on a technical team that provides comprehensive design, technology and consultancy services on all aspects of the company’s products, from project inception through to on-site construction.
Thermal Break Technology
Thermal bridges are a common cause of heat and energy loss, damp walls and mould formation. These issues often arise in cantilever connectivity situations such as balconies. The Schöck Isokorb and Novomur are effective countermeasures against damp, mould growth and structural damage as they thermally separate components from one another and act as structural design components.
- Schöck Isokorb: A heat-insulating, load-bearing element for the thermal partitioning of free cantilever balconies. There is a range of different option packages for connecting reinforced concrete-to-reinforced concrete, concrete-to-steel, steel-to-steel and even concrete-to-wood.
- Schöck Novomur and Novomur Light: Novomur is designed for multi-family houses and Novomur Light is ideal for single-family houses or terraced houses. The thermal insulation element is built into the first course of brick/blockwork and serves as the first course at the point where the basement ceiling forms the ground floor outer and inner walls. This system provides effective thermal insulation either at the first level or as the penultimate level in a basement. Novomur is available in all regular wall thicknesses ranging from 100mm to 240mm in 750mm standard lengths.
Schöck Tronsole Impact Noise Reduction
Schöck Tronsole provides a perfect solution for impact and sound protection on the stairways of multi-occupancy buildings. This complete, reliable and ready-to-build impact insulation system is a cost effective solution that is compliant with all the necessary building stairway regulations. All stair connections and joints are completely sealed for cleanliness, avoiding any possible sonic bridges being formed by stones or brick chips becoming lodged. The Schöck Tronsole system offers a huge range of high quality, maintenance-free solutions to the noise pollution that can be created by the use of unprotected concrete landings and stairways.
Reinforcement Technology
Concrete elements are generally reinforced with steel rebar, and is either placed using individual straight bars in the form of meshes or using bent bars and stirrups. Pre-fabricated reinforcement elements are used to allow particularly efficient construction methods, or when structures simply cannot be built using plain steel reinforcement. Structural joints in buildings can be successfully built using certified heavy duty dowel systems. Flat roof slabs require punching reinforcement around the columns in the form of Schöck Bole. The reinforcement product range includes:
- Schöck Dowel System: The distribution of lateral/transverse force in concrete slabs in multi-storey construction and support walls can be a difficult problem to overcome. The Schock Dowel system is made from stainless steel and allows the transfer of lateral/transverse forces in expansion joints. The SLD dowel enables the support for a ceiling slab to be built without lintels and corbels. The ESD dowel single shear studs are an ideal connection for thin structural elements and small loads.
- Schöck Bole: An anti-punching shear system is used for point formed reinforced flat slabs and enables non-load bearing partition walls to be constructed when a free floor area is required. All Bole types are delivered ready to install and offer a safe solution to punching failure for flat slabs.
- ComBAR: ComBAR is a glass-fibre reinforced polymer rebar and is the first non-metallic reinforcement for permanent structures. ComBAR will not corrode, is not magnetic, does not conduct electrical or thermal currents and has bond properties which are extremely similar to those of steel rebar. ComBAR is ideal for reinforcement in concrete constructions such as bridges, houses, high voltage transformers, research facilities, marine and harbour construction and in shaft walls of tunnels.
Schöck is fully committed to providing a wide range of innovative system solutions for the concrete and brick/blockwork sectors. The experienced and dedicated UK-based team is on hand to offer in-depth advice, information, guidance and technical specification across the whole product range. Schöck is continuously researching and developing the product range to ensure it remains at the forefront of thermal insulation, noise impact suppression and reinforcement solutions.
