Having installed the first Safer Surfacing play area in 1977, Playtop has grown to become the UK and Europe's premier manufacturer and installer of wet pour play surfaces. Used as a safety surface for impact protection when falling from play equipment, Playtop reduces the likelihood of significant injury. Playtop is a hard wearing and cost effective surface also used within sporting venues, hospitals, prisons, zoos and for pathways and patios. Supplying throughout the UK, Playtop have partners spread across 40 countries, worldwide.
Playtop is manufactured using EPDM rubber granules and polyurethane binders, which consist of 92% recycled commercial tyres and sports footwear. Working alongside Playtop is sister company, Charles Lawrence International, which recycles over 300,000 tyres per year resulting in 100,000 tonnes of rubber granulate. Also in partnership with Playtop is Nike, which donates used sports shoes collected within their stores. This produces a rubber granulate known as Nike Grind, which is added to the Playtop mix to create a speckled effect.
Products
Playtop is a cost effective solution as it can be poured directly onto concrete or tarmac and the surface can also be prepared for the topping which is mixed and laid on-site.
Safer Surfacing is used mainly in play areas and below play equipment, creating a safe and comfortable environment for children to play. The benefits of the system are:

Playtop Walkway is an excellent long-life surface for walkways and patios, used in various settings and available in 26 colours. Thinner than Safer Surfacing, the walkways are durable, quiet and soft underfoot and create a non-slip surface, particularly useful within medical institutions, care homes, prisons and zoos.
Playtop has developed a walkway specifically designed for use in and around golf clubs which is able to withstand spiked footwear and easy to maintain and repair. Available in black, red or green, other colour options can be ordered.
Pitch Surrounds is used by many top rugby and football clubs around the edge of the pitch. With many colour options, the surface can incorporate the club's colours and emblem.
Spheres are fixed to the ground the spheres can be used as play equipment or for visual effect. The 3D shapes come in three sizes 350mm, 450mm and 600mm diameter, and available in 20 colours.
Repair Kits are available for minor damage or vandalism to wet pour surfaces and contains up to 15 colours.
Playtop is continuously developing and researching wider applications for the product and reducing costs and the environmental impact in production methods. Highly trained installers work within SAPCA (Sport and Play Construction Association) guidelines and meet European and US standards including, BS EN 1177 : 2008 and ASTM F 1292 : 99.
