Oak Beams
Oak beams are specified for many applications such as fireplace mantles, inglenooks, ceiling beams, decorative beams, porches, roof trusses, balconies, furniture and many others. There are three types of oak beams available; air dried oak which has been cut and then dried for between 2 and 5 years old, kiln dried oak which has a moisture level of 8-12% and is ideal for flooring, doors, skirting and shelving and reclaimed oak which contains very little water and is very hard and difficult to work. The beams are cut, cleaned and shaped to order and can be waxed, oiled treated and stained to specific requirements.
Oak Flooring
Oak By Design provides a range of high quality engineered floor boards in a range of finish options to complement any style and age of property. The engineered oak flooring basically consists of an oak top layer which is 6mm thick and a base layer of quality birch ply. Character grade European oak is used and it has been tongue and grooved down the full length of the plank and end matched. Finish options include brushed and rasped which lifts the grain and overemphasises the V-groove, a fuming process which artificially darkens the wood and shaping and distressing to replicate a reclaimed floor. Flooring options include Classic, Colonial, Tudor and New England designs in various lengths and widths with thicknesses of 20 or 22mm.
Oak Doors
Oak By Design can provide superior quality, bespoke designed internal oak doors in any size. There are three main style options to choose from; a ledged only door incorporates 4 or 6 vertical planks on the front of the door and 3 or 4 horizontal planks holding the planks together on the reverse side, a ledged and braced door is similar to the ledged door but features 2 additional diagonal braces and the Castle double sided door which is 50mm thick and looks the same on both sides. The doors can feature glazing and be distressed for an aged look. Door linings, casings, frames and ironmongery are also available.
Oak RSJ Covers
Manufactured from kiln dried oak, the RSJ covers are made to measure and finished to exact requirements, including waxing, colouring and oiling. Oak By Design can provide 2, 3 and 4 sided covers and come with spare stain, wax and oak plugs for installation.
Oak Structures
Oak By Design can provide clients with a range of quality oak structures and install them if required. Working closely with the designers, engineers or architects, the company has the knowledge and experience to create roof trusses, purlins, porches and gazebos to the client’s exact specification.
Oak Sleepers
Oak sleepers are specified for many uses such as raised beds, retaining walls, garden steps, seating and dividers. The new green oak sleepers are generally around 2.6–2.7m long, 200mm wide and 120mm deep and weigh approximately 60kgs and can be cut to size. A local and national delivery service is available.
