Hesco Bastion is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire and specialises in the design and manufacture of Hesco Concertainer which can be used for a wide range of civil engineering applications. Hesco Concertainer is a prefabricated, multi-cellular system which is manufactured from Alu-Zinc coated steel weldmesh and is lined with a non-woven polypropylene geotextile. The units are delivered on-site flat-packed on standard timber skids or pallets. Concertainer units can be joined and extended using joining pins which are provided and filled. The process needs very little manpower and uses commonly available equipment.
Retaining Walls
Hesco Concertainer gabions and bastions are perfect for mass gravity retaining walls and has been developed to resist earth and pressure that is created behind the wall with overturning or sliding failure. Concertainer bastions with front inserts are an ideal choice where quality stone is costly or access to the site is difficult. Bastions only need around one third of the amount of stone of a traditional gabion and the remainder of the unit can be filled with a suitable granular fill. This system also allows for easy planting and landscaping of the retaining wall structure.
Erosion Control
Concertainer has been specified for numerous erosion control applications for a wide range of markets throughout the world. Concertainer was originally developed to counteract the effects of coastal erosion and is now also used for embankment stabilisation.
- Coastal Erosion: Concertainer is perfect for shoring up sea ravaged coastal shorelines due to its simplicity of design and ease of installation. The construction of Concertainer allows for ease of installation with the minimum of equipment and labour, which in turn leads to a fast installation schedule. The majority of cases can use on-site rubble for infill, saving on the expense of tipping waste.
- Waterways: Used for embankment stabilisation, Concertainer has proved its value on the waterways, especially where works are expensive and time consuming. The geotextile membrane allows for the fast drying of concrete when used as an infill and quick draining when river silt and gravels are used. The simplistic design of Concertainer allows for a strong and durable reconstruction of riverbanks and towpaths.
- Gabions: Concertainer Gabions are ideal for soil conservation and ecology programmes as they combine versatility, flexibility, permeability, durability, strength and economy to solve the problems of earth retention and control. The gabions allow for the growth of natural vegetation, maintain the natural environment of the surrounding area and contrast well with large concrete structures. With a welded mesh construction, the gabions tolerate settlements with fracture which is vital on unstable ground. Concertainer Gabion is fully assembled during manufacture and can be installed by unskilled labourers.
