Heritage Cast Iron Radiators Company Profile
Heritage Cast Iron Radiators is based in East Sussex and specialises in sourcing and restoring old cast iron radiators. Cast iron radiators are found in many derelict and condemned buildings and are often in a poor state. Heritage fully restores radiators to their former glory, replacing old valves, making them fully compatible with modern heating and plumbing systems.
The company has a vast range of radiators available to suit all types of modern and traditional interiors. The majority of stock is available to view on the website and is continuously being updated and added to. Cast iron radiators are ideal for modern heating systems and hold their heat for longer periods than conventional radiators, therefore creating more cost effective heating.
The Restoration Process
The initial stage of restoration involves the removal of all the old bushes. The radiator is then submerged into a chemical tank for 48 hours, cleaning off all the exterior paint and debris and removing scale and sludge from the interior. The radiator is then thoroughly washed down and dried ready for the second stage. The next stage is to re-bush the radiator with 0.5 inch fillings to make them compatible with modern pipework. They are then connected to a high pressure water system to fully test for leaks or weaknesses. Further testing is carried out before being primed and coated in a selection of colour options.
Heritage also offers clients a restoration service for their own cast iron radiators.
Radiators
There is a wide range of radiator styles to choose from which are suitable for both small and large rooms. The range includes:
- 2 column radiators are suitable for small areas such as hallways, toilets and bathrooms and are 2.5 inches deep
- 4 column radiators are a classic style suitable for all environments and are 5.5 inches deep
- 6 column radiators are 8.5 inches deep, suitable where space is not at a premium and a striking feature is required
- 9 column radiators are the largest of the column radiator range being 13 inches deep and suit being installed below windows or in restricted height areas
- Princess is a 7.5 inch deep round topped radiator with two columns and often features decorative patterns
- Duchess is an elegant 4.5 inch deep round topped radiator with an elegant appearance
- School radiators are wide single column radiators, 5.5 inches deep and as the name suggests, were originally fitted in schools
Radiators are generally wet sprayed to give a traditional finish, retaining the texture of the cast iron. Colours available include gun metal grey, antique gold, gardenia, heritage bronze, white and polished. A full range of Farrow and Ball paint colours are also available along with a paint matching service. A BTU calculator is available on the website to calculate which sized radiator is most appropriate for a particular location and room size.
Valves and Accessories
Heritage offers a range of 0.5inch manual and thermostatic Victorian and Georgian style radiator valves which are manufactured from solid brass and hand finished to a superior quality. The valves are available in polished brass or chrome plated options. All valves have a compression fitting for 15mm copper pipe and a 0.5 inch BSP radiator connector. Wooden hand wheels are produced from walnut and are supplied in a natural clear or black lacquer finish. Other products include wall stays and 15mm and 22mm pipe shrouds.
Heritage prides itself on the exceptional standards of quality provided in the restoration and handling of cast iron radiators. Every radiator is given a thorough make-over and finished to the highest quality. The radiators have the ability to heat any sized room and are finished to exact personal specification.
