Services
English Oak Buildings has one of the largest purpose-built framing workshops within the UK and uses modern and traditional carpentry skills and techniques to manufacture superior quality structures. There are various levels of service available to clients including:
- Partial build, which involves designing, manufacturing and raising the main structure with an architect and main contractor. The contractor will then complete the final part of the build.
- For the self-build client, English Oak Buildings will provide the oak free-standing frame to exact specification ready for building.
- Full project management is available, where a client can benefit from a complete turnkey service covering the design, manufacture and installation processes and the management of architects, planners, engineers and contractors.
The in-house planning consultant has an extensive knowledge and understanding of relevant planning regulations and can assist clients in designing a structure that is in-keeping with its surroundings and environment. Once a design has been approved, an English Oak Buildings engineer will provide structural calculations to satisfy Building Control and then the frame can be made using a precise and traditional joinery method known as the ‘scribe rule’. This method makes every connection between the timbers unique. The carpenter uses a marking device to scribe each piece of timber individually into position above a life-size drawing on the floor. The joints are cut out by hand and pre-drilled ready for on-site installation. Each section of timber is marked by the carpenter to indicate the precise location within the frame.
English Oak Buildings can carry out specialist cladding of the oak frames and has designed a pre-decorated warm wall and roof cladding system. This system allows the internal timbers to remain on view from the inside. The company can also supply and fit wooden shingle roofing which complements the timber frames and works well on new build and existing properties.
English Oak Buildings also provides a restoration and conversion service for existing oak framed buildings. The work is carried out professionally and sensitively to bring a building back to its former glory.
English Oak Buildings prides itself on creating beautiful, functional and strong buildings which are made to last. Manufactured from timber sourced within the UK, the company supports the use of sustainable design and production methods and shows a strong interest in the use of high value insulation, alternative heating and energy sources and renewable and recyclable products. All timber used is from FSC managed forests and English Oak Buildings is a member of the Association of Environment Conscious Builders. The friendly and knowledgeable team is happy to assist with enquiries from private and commercial clients throughout the UK.
