Services

Removing and replacing steps is a varied and complex process which often involves the removal of pipework, supporting existing walls and protecting living spaces underneath. Installations are carried out within the M25 area; other installation projects further afield can be arranged. A waterproofing service is also available for the stone steps. English City Stone can install a multi-layered, heavy-duty membrane prior to the installation of the steps.
York Stone
York Stone is sandstone which is quarried in Northern England and features a fine, tightly-packed grain, making it extremely strong and durable. York Stone is often specified for use as steps and other architectural masonry and comes in colours ranging from deep sandy buff through to grey with a hint of silver or blue.
- Steps: York Stone is ideal for steps and will transform the look of any property. The steps are produced from diamond sawn stone, which is hardwearing, offering a lifespan of over 100 years and is non-slip, even in wet conditions and approved by local authorities for Listed Buildings.

The paving is available in various options including Sawn York Stone in standard thicknesses, New Riven York Stone for a rougher, rustic finish in various thicknesses, Reclaimed York Stone in various colours and sizes.
Portland Stone
Portland Stone is a limestone quarried in Dorset and is a stone which is white-grey in colour and features varying levels of fossil content. Portland Stone has been used as a masonry material for many years and will last for many decades.
- Steps: York Stone is ideal for use on steps as it is hardwearing and attractive. Portland Stone steps are generally produced as wedges as opposed to separate tread and riser units. Bullnose can be added to the wedges, if required.
- Paving: Sawn Portland Stone offers a non-slip surface and is ideal for exterior paving applications. The paving is available in a standard thickness.

For a traditional look, the team can create individual cast metal panels or rails with finials and expertly fitted into new stonework. The metalwork is weatherproofed with specialist black paint.
