Butcher Plasterworks Company Profile

Founded in London in 1946, to meet the plasterwork restoration needs of bomb damaged buildings, Butcher Plasterworks remains the first choice for fine decorative plasterwork. The team of craftsmen use skills honed for generations to create traditional columns, arches and moulded ceilings of the highest quality and offer a range of master plastering services.

The reputation of Butcher Plasterworks is such that the company has been called upon for fibrous plasterwork projects around the world. Its clients include Buckingham Palace and The Bank of England.

Butcher’s unrivalled collection of moulds makes the premises an invaluable resource for period property owners, but the company has introduced a contemporary range too, in response to a move towards sculptural plasterwork in new homes and business properties. The website shows stunning examples of traditional and contemporary projects, from the reinstatement of cornices and mouldings in a grand Regents Park residence to the sleek lines of Alexander McQueen’s futuristic London store.

Butcher’s London premises showcase a treasure trove of stock products such as cornices, ceiling centres, dado mouldings, niches and other architectural features. Many of these elements can also be bespoke made in an individual style. The company will create a new mould when a design cannot be matched from the extensive collection. Other bespoke products include fireplaces, ceiling domes, light troughs and contemporary feature wall tiles.

The extensive products range includes:

  • Cornices: These features extremely popular in the 18th and 19th Century add an attractive finishing touch to a room. Butcher Plasterworks extensive range includes nearly 20 Georgian styles; more than 25 Regency; about 35 Victorian; five Neo Gothic; eight Edwardian; ten 20th Century linear and eight contemporary. Bespoke cornices can also be made.
  • Ceiling Centres: Nearly 50 ceiling centres in sizes from 290mm to 1120mm diameter and designs from simple rings to the most elaborate scrolls and scallops. Butcher's craftsmen will also expertly create the most intricate ceiling centres as one-off bespoke pieces.
  • Panels and Dados: A choice of more than 30 designs.
  • Corbels and Scrolls: Whether choosing a corbel as a decorative finish for beams and arches, as a support for shelves or to incorporate into a fireplace mantel, Butcher Plasterworks has a design to suit all architectural styles, from a selection of more than 70.
  • Columns and Pilasters: From plain Doric columns to capitals with elaborate foliate and scroll designs, Butcher Plasterworks has an unparalleled selection - or the team will make something bespoke.
  • Niches and Niche heads: Butcher Plasterworks has a choice of niches perfect for displaying treasured figurines.
  • Pediments and Overdoors: For the finishing touch to a doorway or façade, take a look at Butcher's selection of pediments and overdoors.
