Blind Bolt Company Profile

The Blind Bolt Company has developed an innovative constructional girder and cavity fixing known as the Blind Bolt. The Blind Bolt is marketed by Henry Venables Products of Stafford and can be fitted horizontally or vertically and in some applications can even be removed. Blind Bolt is a metal bar threaded at one end with a toggle that swings. The company has successfully supplied the Blind Bolt to numerous prestigious projects such as the Bull Ring shopping centre, Shell UK, Railtrack, British Waterways and Leeds railway station.

The high performance fixings with a product range of M8 to M24 in diameter are fabricated in high tensile steel. Certain applications require a high degree of protection and The Blind Bolt Company has developed a Dorreltech style coating. The bolt works extremely simply, by drilling, rotating and tightening it and is the perfect choice for working at height or restricted access areas.

The Blind Bolt

The Blind Bolt offers users unique flexibility and safe, fast and easy installation, saving time and money. The ever increasing product range and the option of customising designs for individual requirements, enables customers to find the right type of fixing for any project. Fixing into a girder cavity or box section is no longer an issue with the Blind Bolt system.

The zinc and yellow/Dorreltech Blind Bolt is available with 9-26mm hole diameters, 19-53mm anchor clearance and 25-64mm depth clearance. High tensile zinc and yellow passivated blind bolts are available in 8-24mm diameters with tension capacities between 6.9 and 82.4Pt (kN). Stainless steel A4 Blind Bolts are available in diameters of 9-17mm. The Blind Bolt has been used across numerous industry sectors and examples of applications include:

  • Construction: M16 x 90mm Blind Bolt anchor system was used to tie work platforms into tubular steel, eliminating the need for on-site welding.
  • Railway: Blind Bolts are a high performance fixing solution for installing AWS units onto steel sleepers. The M20 Blind Bolt was used to secure the units to the steel sleepers and was approved by Network Rail.
  • Scaffolding: Blind Bolts have been specified for securing scaffolding to new build projects during the construction of the steel skeleton found in most industrial and commercial units. The quick-release anchor system enables the bolts to be installed and removed without causing any damage to the holding material.
  • Bridges: M16, M20 and M24 Blind Bolts have been used to replace existing fixings on the Tay Bridge. Blind Bolt does not require specialist tools and is therefore an ideal choice for working in restricted areas, such as underneath bridges. Blind Bolts are also used on the underside of the Tay Bridge, eliminating the need for scaffolding.
  • Marine: Blind Bolt is an ideal solution for a broad range of marine fixing applications ranging from harbours to mooring points. The unique one-sided fixing process enables fixing to steel grids, wooden decks and posts to provide strength and support.

Heavy Duty (HD) Bolt

The HD Bolt has been designed to satisfy the need for a shorter blind fixing, with improved performance where a shear plane would fall across the legs of a Blind Bolt. The HD Bolt features an expanding serrated base and creates the perfect solution for fixing between heavyweight steel sections. The bolt incorporates an easy activation method which has been developed to reduce installation time and costs. All that is required to activate the HD Bolt is a hammer and a spanner. The HD Bolt is fast and easy to fit, does not require an oversized hole and is finished with Dacralon, providing excellent protection.

Thin Wall (TW) Bolt

The TW Bolt has been created to address the need for a blind fixing in lightweight steel sheet or cladding materials. Following installation, a neat, low-profile head is left without a stud. The TW Bolt is fast and simple to install, has a strong shear capacity and is finished with zinc electroplate to provide superior protection.

The Blind Bolt Company prides itself on offering a comprehensive range of high performance fixing bolts for a broad array of applications. The experienced and knowledgeable team at The Blind Bolt Company is happy to assist with enquiries and provides solutions for complex and bespoke requirements. Blind Bolts are available through a national network of suppliers.
