Benchmark is a design led manufacturer of bespoke furniture and specialist joinery and metalwork for offices, public institutions, hotels, bars and restaurants and private homes.
Established by Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe in 1984 Benchmark combines traditional quality with modern technology and a commitment to sustainability being the first furniture manufacturer to win The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
Bespoke Furniture and Specialist Woodworking
Benchmark has a proven track record in the design, manufacture and installation of furniture for Benchmark clients which include architects, interior designers, fit out companies, retailers and furniture dealers.
Based in converted redundant farm buildings in West Berkshire, the workshops include the latest woodworking machinery and tooling as well as a five axis CNC manufacturing capability. There are 35 highly skilled craftsmen trained in cabinet making, joinery, machining, polishing, veneering, metal work and upholstery, all of which are done in house.
Metalworking
Our metalwork shop specialises in zinc, pewter and copper sheet work. We work with many leading restaurant groups - some of Britain’s most iconic zinc and pewter bars were made by us. We can design and build an entire bar and restaurant interior or work to your specification.
In House Design
The in house design team are experienced in product and furniture design as well as engineering. They are also responsible for managing the progress of projects throughout the manufacturing and installation stages. They have an extensive knowledge and experience of a wide variety of materials and techniques as well as strong problem solving capabilities.
Delivery and Installation
The company has its own fleet of vehicles and drivers to ensure safe delivery and a dedicated team of skilled fitters for onsite installation. They are experienced in working on construction sites and aware of health and safety regulations and licences. Our site teams are fully compliant with the Construction Skills Certification Team (CSCS).
Domestic Furniture Range
Benchmark also sells a range of contemporary handmade furniture for domestic use. All the pieces are made in our workshops and sold direct to both trade and general public from an adjacent showroom. The designs are exclusive to Benchmark and have been developed with well-known designers including Terence Conran, Shin and Tomoko Azumi, Thomas Heatherwick and Russell Pinch.
