Balco Balcony Systems Company Profile
Balco Balcony Systems Ltd provides complete balcony solutions. The company’s open and glazed balcony systems are in demand across Europe, where it has built a reputation for innovation and technical expertise.
The company takes pride in treating each project as unique, tailoring solutions to fit the individual building and working closely with architects. Aesthetics are important, and Balco offers great choice in terms of openings, decorative edges, corner solutions, accessories, colours and materials. Parapets do not have to be rectangular.
Much of Balco’s work is on rejuvenating the appearance of decades-old blocks of apartments by fitting glazed balconies. Glazed balconies offer the occupiers many benefits in terms of energy saving, sound reduction and more useable space. By protecting a building’s facade, glazed balconies can also help to reduce maintenance costs.
Balco offers a complete glazing system with a choice of many combinations. The existing floor module and roof can be used, or a new one created from scratch.
Fixing systems can be by using posts on the wall, direct to the building’s concrete carcass or by posts at the front edge on a new foundation.
New floor modules, if needed, are cast in a frame of hot-galvanised steel and weigh around half as much as an ordinary concrete floor. Conventional concrete or lightweight modules can also be supplied.
The standard roof is an aluminium frame and clad in trapezium corrugated sheet metal; but there is an option of a hot-galvanised steel carcass and different insulated claddings are available. These include internal roof plating in trapezium corrugated aluzinc and external plywood plus GRP/felt; and internal and external roof plating in trapezium corrugated aluzinc. Roof drainage can be over the front edge, via external guttering or concealed guttering.
The right drainage with a glazed balcony will help to avoid drip marks and keep the cladding looking fresh for longer. Balco offers two drainage solutions, one of them its own patented Cleanline® system that leads water away along concealed channels.
The company also has a patented ventilation system – Balco VentTech® – which is built into all balconies to reduce condensation and safeguard the building’s existing ventilation system.
There are several combinations of glazing and parapet to provide the ideal balcony frontage. The parapet cladding is fixed to the front edge of the bottom profile, giving more space on the balcony. Laminate cladding is standard for the lower part, but this can be changed and the proportion of parapet and glazing can be varied. There is also an option with full-height windows and railings outside. The Balco Vision™ option combined with a folding glass system without a frame gives the impression of a single expanse of glass.
Much thought has gone into how a glazed-in balcony needs to work and another of Balco’s unique features is the Balco Twin® opening, offering versatility with straightforward operation. With this, the window can be opened like a normal sliding window or folded in. An individual pane can be folded in at any point along the track to facilitate cleaning.
PDF documents are downloadable from the website that give full specifications of the opening options; folding glass with or without frame, or sliding glass.
The balconies are ready prepared for roller blinds which can be ordered from the start or added later and other optional accessories include powered awnings with or without wind and sun control.
Balco is proud of the high technical quality of its balconies and undertakes to follow the Nordic Balcony Association’s guidelines regarding delivery of safe balconies. Its quality certification includes the ISO 9001 certification. Holding ISO 14001 shows that its production processes are as friendly to the environment as possible.
