Agrell Architectural Carving Company Profile
Agrell Architectural Carving creates exceptional hand-carved wood decoration for residential, commercial and religious projects. Products include decorative moulding, capitals, brackets, renaissance panelling, gothic screens and gargoyles.
The company holds a range of carved lines as stock items, but most of its work is custom made.
Agrell Architectural Carving undertakes the most complex of architectural sculpture in styles ranging from gothic, through renaissance to rococo. Commissions have included carving ceiling bosses in oak for the House of Commons, the restoration of 18th century woodwork in Bishop Sherlock’s Room at Fulham Palace and a number of carving projects for the Sultan of Brunei’s London residence. The company normally works directly with an architect or designer.
All its architectural wood carving projects are directed by company founder Ian Agrell, who was elected to the Association of Master Carvers in 1981 and writes for international woodworking publications as well as producing woodcarving training material. He is in charge of the whole project from shop drawings to the finished work and supervises the company’s team of highly-experienced woodcarvers and project managers.
A large production capacity results in quick delivery for projects. The company also has offices in the United States and its workshops are world renowned.
Custom Woodcarving
Skills and techniques followed by generations of woodcarvers are used to produce delicate work that is beyond a machine. Agrell Architectural’s team of woodcarvers enjoy the challenge of producing beautiful unique pieces. Bespoke items can include hand carved fireplace mantels, custom carved furniture and mirror frames. Designs can be adjusted to suit a client’s requirements and budget. Hand carved chairs have been produced to order in styles ranging from reproductions of late 17th Century Anglo Dutch chairs to chairs inspired by the 1930s French designer, Armand Rateau.
Bronze Casting
Agrell Architectural Carving’s woodcarving designs are now also available in cast bronze. Real bronze is always used – not resin impregnated with bronze powder. For projects requiring a number of complex elements to be carved (such as capitals or floral swags) having them cast in bronze will cost less than having each one individually carved in wood. There are over 70 different patinas to choose from. Agrell Architectural Carving will happily quote for custom bronze casting projects.
Stock items
Stock wood carving products include acanthus moulding and egg and dart moulding, each in 7ft 6in lengths with 8in pattern match. Carved corner blocks are available for both acanthus and egg and dart and may be used also as rosettes. Brackets are available in acanthus or lotus leaf style, in two sizes.
Agrell Architectural has received many plaudits for the high level of its customer service, producing quality, volume and delivery regardless of the project size or location.
